One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 1.11.19

What a great start to the new term! Year 3 have been working at an electric pace this week and have excelled themselves in both English and Maths.

English

We have started a new book called Into The Forest by Anthony Browne, which the children have absolutely loved. We have been using expanded noun phrases to describe the characters we have come across, and emotive language to describe the feelings of our protagonist as he meets these characters. We have been using amazing word such as: aghast, jubilant, petrified and exasperated, to express our character's feelings.

Maths

In Maths, we have been tackling fractions in various forms. We have looked at fractions of objects, shapes and numbers. We are able to  identify the numerator and denominator of a fraction and what they mean. We are also able to find the fraction of a number, for example we can find 3 quarters of 24 by dividing 24 (our whole number) by 4 (our denominator) and then multiplying that by 3 (our numerator) to make 18.

PSHE

It has been healthy relationships this week and we have been looking at kindness and how we can show kindness both in and out of school. We have have written poetry about what we think kindness is and how we can try to stop unkind acts. We have also looked at different scenarios, both on the playground and in the classroom, about how to deal with situations where people are not showing kindness to each other.
