Learning this week:

Our Term 2 class text is Street Child by Berlie Doherty. We have only read the first few chapters and are loving it already. Our writing this week has been a character description of the ‘Stick Man’, evil Mr Spinks, with a focus on expanded noun phrases. Additionally, we wrote a setting description of the Victorian workhouse that Jim Jarvis entered. We focused on using ambitious vocabulary and using our senses to portray the full extent of the harsh workhouse environment.

In maths, our learning has been focused on converting units of time. We have looked at the vocabulary associated with time and learnt some strategies to help us remember it.  We then applied this learning to a range of challenges.

Our first week back has been a Values focus on Healthy and Positive Relationships. As classes, we have had some valuable circle time to discuss what makes relationships positive and healthy as well as looking at what we can do as individuals to improve our relationship with others.

Spook-tacular Term 2 writing challenge. Theme: Halloween Muahahahaha… I have a terrifyingly difficult writing challenge for you all this term. If you dare, write me a story based on this term’s theme of ‘Halloween’. You can choose your characters, the storyline, setting… everything, as long as you make Mr McAuley impressed (or terrified) of your frightfully good writing. A prize will be given for the 3 best stories. Remember, you only have 100 words to do this story in, so every word counts! The ‘dead’-line for this Halloween story is Friday 29th November on Mr McAuley’s desk. Good luck!

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
