One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News - Friday 8.11.19

What a great week in Year 1 this week! The children have been demonstrating some super learning this week.

In maths this week, we have been learning about money.  The children have been learning to recognise coins and notes and have been learning about the value of these.  They have also been exchanging money (e.g. exchanging a 10p coin for two 5p coins).  The children have also been learning to make amounts in different ways e.g.

10p= 5p + 5p

10p= 2p + 2p + 2p + 2p + 2p

Next week in maths we will be learning about adding and subtracting with money.

In topic this week, we have been reading the story 'The Jolly Postman'.  We have been learning about the jobs there are in the postal service.  We wrote a letter back to Goldilocks from Baby Bear and then posted the letters in a local postbox! We had to follow a map to get to the postbox and then we created our own maps to show the route we travelled.

Love to learn (continued from last week):

For your love to learn we would like you to take your child to the shop and pay for something with coins. Alternatively, you could set up a pretend shop at home, where your child could 'pay' for some items. You could draw what you bought in the love to learn book and draw around the coins used. This home learning is due in on Wednesday 13th November.

Recording of the Christmas song:

As you may have already heard we are recording our very own Christmas Song. We would like to invite pupils to design the inside sleeve for the c.d. The front of the sleeve would need to have the title of the song on, which is 'I believe in...'. It would also need to say by the pupils of Chilton Primary School. Miss Cheshire will pick a winner whose design will be used. All entrants need to be handed in to Miss Cheshire by Wednesday 20th Novemeber.

Team Periwinkle class assembly:

A reminder that parents and carers of children in Team Periwinkle are invited in to the class sharing assembly next Wednesday (13th November) at 9am in the school hall (please go to the main office after dropping your child off that morning).

Have a great weekend!

Below are some photos showing Team Teal working with their number sequences last week!
