Please read here to find out what Year 5 have been learning and about upcoming dates for the diary.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily. Please sign their record and encourage them to read a range of genres. There are banded books in school in addition to the books in the school’s library and the class book corner (including those in the ‘Classics Challenge’).

Notice

This week we have said goodbye (temporarily) to Mrs Barlow.  Mrs Barlow’s baby is due at the end of this month.  We will communicate her baby news as soon as we can!

Learning this week:

This week we have started a new book in English and Guided Reading.  The book we have been studying this week has been about Greek myths. We have focused on the narrative Pandora’s Box and the children have created a comic strip re-telling this story.

In maths this week, the children have been learning about line graphs.  The children have worked hard to interpret line graphs as well as using their vocabulary knowledge to help answer challenging questions about them.

In Term 3, year 5 spend time revisiting our school values.  This term we will focus on courage and what it means to us and other people.  This week year 5 have learnt about Gandhi and why he was important and courageous.  The children have created posters about Gandhi and created a bright and colourful display for the school.

Home Learning:

We would like the children to create their own comic strip! The children can present their comic strip any way they wish and we would love to display these in our classrooms.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
