Term 3 Week 3

Maths

In Maths this week we started the week with putting our brand new knowledge of adding using the column method into practice by answering tricky word problems. We moved on in the week at having a go at subtracting using the column method. We started by not going into the next ten for example 45-23 but some of us by the end of the week could use the column method to do calculations like 74 – 29! We are all so incredibly proud. This just shows how solid the children’s number understanding is. Go Team Ocean and Team Sky!

Don’t forget to ask the children at home to show you how they do this. They are superb at explaining it!

English

In English this week we have started to look at the book ‘Clown’ by Quentin Blake. This book is very interesting and very different to the previous books we have looked at as it has no words! We know we need to use our imagination to come up with our own words when retelling the story. We have been focussing on adjectives this week to describe what the main character looks like but also what his personality is like. We then moved on to describing the settings of the book focussing on using our senses to help us so what we could hear, smell, taste, touch and feel.

We have been really working on using adventurous language and not words like big and nice. Ask us to give you some examples!

Topic

This week in Topic we have been Scientists! We have been looking at the forces push, pull and twist. We had a variety of pictures from when Paul came in from Kinetic Circus and we had to work out which force he was using. We became so good at this! We had many discussions and got a little distracted and tried to work out what force we use to brush our teeth!

Please find attached the KS1 Maths challenge for this term!

Next week:

We will be looking at multiplication, looking at maps in Geography and in English we will be looking at sentence openers.
