One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly Newsletter

Another fabulous week for Year 1! They have been working so hard this week and it is great to see how much progress they are all making – well done Year 1!

In maths this week the children have been learning that addition is the inverse of subtraction and vice versa. They have been working out the answers to addition calculations and then using the inverse subtraction calculation e.g.

5+3 = 8                                  8 – 3 = 5

Some of the children have moved on to writing the 4 calculations in the family e.g.

5+3 = 8        3+5 = 8       8–3 = 5      8–5 = 3

Next week, the children will be learning about mass.  They will compare and order objects depending on their mass and use mathematical vocabulary, such as heavier, heaviest, lighter, lightest, heavy, light.

We started our new topic: How are you? this week with a fabulous Clubbercise session! The children looked great in their bright sports clothes and had a great time dancing with glowsticks. The children have written a recount of this activity and have been learning about the importance of exercise.  Next week, the children will be learning about what we need in order to survive (e.g. food, water, shelter).

LOVE TO LEARN

(Continued from last week): As part of our writing task last week, we looked at adjectives (describing words). To strengthen this learning, we would like children to write about a person, place or thing they love using adjectives to describe. Remember to show off your handwriting and use your sounds. This will be due in on Wednesday 5th February.

Important dates:

Friday 7th February: Number day – see posters for extra details

Friday 7th February: School Disco after school

Friday 14th December: Last day of term
