One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 28.02.20

The children have settled back into their learning really well this week - perhaps it was knowing that parent consultations were on!  Thank you to all the families who were able to book appointments.  If you would still like to speak to your class teacher, our doors are always open!

Tuesday was Personal Challenge Day!  The children across the school had to beat a sporting challenge personal to them.  In Year 6, pupils attempted to throw the ball at a wall and then catch it with the other hand.  They had to see how many catches they could make as quickly as possible.

In English this week, we have started our new text 'Kensuke's Kingdom'.  The children have revelled in the mysterious opening line: 'I disappeared the night before my twelve birthday' and make in depth predictions about what the book was about.  From this, we read the first chapter and wrote setting descriptions then in role of different characters.  It was interesting to think of the vocabulary needed and consider the emotions that each character would be feeling.

In maths, we have worked on geometry: rotation, reflection, symmetry, translation and plotting co-ordinates.  On Friday, the children used their knowledge of symmetry to create intricate and stylish symmetrical art.

Next week is Book Week so we will be doing lots of fun activities involving Shakespeare!
