Weekly News

Weekly News – 6th March

What a wonderful World Book Day we’ve had! Thank you for the wonderful effort in all of the costumes!

In English, as part of book week, we have been studying William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We started by making predictions and discussing different ethical problems before watching a live action performance of the play. We then spent some time creating scenescapes and characters before re-enacting some of the play’s famous scenes. We then spent time writing, focusing on emotive language. During Guided Reading lessons, we focused on summarising and drama showing emotions.

In Maths, we have been working on money, linking problems to previous place value work. We converted and compared money using multiplication and division by 100. We then rounded amounts to estimate before moving on to a range of a different reasoning problems involving money.

As part of Book Week, the children were involved in a class swap, visiting Year 3 and showing off their favourite books. Different teachers also came to Year 4 to read their favourite books to the children.

In the afternoons this week, we continued our RE ‘Importance of Easter to Christians’ unit as well as working on our new Topic ‘What’s it Made of?’. We planned and undertook an experiment looking at the moving speed of different liquids, focusing on making sure our experiment was a fair test. We then wrote up our experiments, making conclusions based on scientific evidence.

Home Learning

There is a MyMaths task on money set, due Friday 13th March 2020.

We are still encouraging the children to play as much Times Tables Rockstars (ttrockstars.com) at home. When logging in, please select ‘Chilton Primary School, Ramsgate’. Children’s log ins are the same as their MyMaths log ins (please see your teacher if you need your child’s log in).

Online book club!

So that the children can share their reading choices we have created an online book club. When they have read a book that they have loved, they can log in and write a review on our site. The link to this site is below:
