Home Learning - Day 1 - 23.3.20

Welcome to home learning. We hope you are as excited for this as we are...

Good Morning Reception,

Here are your challenges for home learning today:

Phonics:

Todays sound is ‘y’.

You say: ‘y’

They say ‘y’

Repeat.

You say ‘y – y – y – yak’

They say ‘y - y -y – yak’

Show them the picture of the Read Write Inc ‘y’ (see blog post picture. You can also find this on your Chilton Handwriting Patter sheet.) Tell your child the patter ‘down a horn, up a horn, under his head.’ Have your child practice writing it in the air. Now they can practice writing a line of ‘y’s on their writing sheet. We recap 2 handwriting patters every day. Today our recap sounds are ‘b’ and ‘d’. Again, please refer to your handwriting patter sheet. Now it is time to practice oral blending.

You say ‘y’ ‘e’ ‘s’.

They say ‘yes’.

You say ‘y’ ‘e’ ‘s’ ‘yes’

They say ‘y’ ‘e’ ‘s’ ‘yes’

Repeat with the words ‘yet’ and ‘yak’.

Now they can practice writing those words onto the yellow lines.

Please see your home learning resource pack for the handwriting patters, sounds and phrases and red words.

Don't forget to read your book or access some of the online reading links.

We follow the Read Write Inc scheme of work from Ruth Miskin. RWI are making speed sound videos which are available for 2 hours every day from 9.30. This would be a great way of starting your phonics lesson. Please see link -

Maths: Please complete your maths sheet titled ‘IALT sequence times of the day’. Draw pictures of the things you do today e.g. eat breakfast, brush teeth, read story, etc..

Challenge: Can you label the pictures?

Topic:

Our new home learning topic is ‘Superheroes’. Today please research your favourite superhero. Draw and label a picture of them.

Challenge: Write a fact about your superhero e.g. My superhero can fly.
Please encourage your child to try to sound out the words themselves where possible. (e.g. superhero is tricky but they can hear the first sound if you stretch it for them – sssssuperhero).
