Reading: You task for today’s reading is to send Mrs Cousins or Mr Mason a book review of a book you have read recently. There are book review templates attached or you can create your own. There are three different templates so choose the one that you feel suits your ability. If possible, we would like you to send these to us by Monday morning please and we will put some up on the blog Tuesday.

Writing: For your writing today I would like you to complete pages 10, 11 and 12 of the Troll pack that was put up on Monday. The focus is to use adverbs (remember adverbs are usually words that end in –ly that describe a verb or whole clauses) in your writing. Complete the activities on these pages and then write your next paragraph using adverbs that describe the food that trolls like to eat. Your new subheading is What Trolls Eat.

Maths

Today we will learn how to round numbers. Rounding numbers does not mean making them look like a round, circle shape! It means changing the number to the nearest multiple of ten or hundred. 

Rounding to the nearest ten - means find the nearest multiple of ten.

If a number has 1,2,3,4 in the ones column, then you round it DOWN to the multiple of ten underneath it so 21,22,23 and 24 would all round down to the number 20.

If a number has a 5,6,7,8 or 9 in the ones column, then you round it UP to the next multiple of ten, so 25,26,27,28, and 29 would all round up to 30.

Here's a little rhyme we use to help us when we round numbers: 1,2,3,4, round it down to the floor, 5,6,7,8,9 round it up to the line.

Examples:     

What is 47 rounded to the nearest 10? - there is a 7 in the ones so we round up, the next multiple of 10 after 40 is 50 so the answer is 50.

What is 81 rounded to the nearest 10? - there is a 1 in the ones so we round down to 80.

What is 98 rounded to the nearest 10? - there is an 8 in the ones so we round up to 100.   

If you are asked to round a number to the nearest 100, you have to look at the tens digit (not the ones digit).

Let's look at 264. Because the tens digit is a 6 we must round up to the next multiple of 100 which is 300. So 264 rounded to the nearest 100 is 300.

Examples:

What is 812 rounded to the nearest 100? The tens digit is a 1 so we round down to 800.

What is 658 rounded to the nearest 100? The tens digit is a 5 so we round up to 700.

You can also choose one of the challenges attached below that best suits your level. You haven't done this since Year 2 so you may need to recap and start on mild. Mild = rounding to the nearest 10    Spicy = Rounding to the nearest 10 and to the nearest 100     Hot = Rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000.

Spelling

This afternoon we'd like you to have a look at words spelt with the letters ough.

They can make different sounds in different words:

tough, rough, enough - the ough makes an 'uff' sound

although, though, dough - the ough makes an 'oa' sound

bought, thought, fought, sought, ought - the ough makes an 'or' sound

through - the ough makes an 'oo' sound

cough - the ough makes an 'off' sound

plough - the ough makes an 'ow' sound

There are a few activities to choose from to practice this spelling pattern below. Try to complete at least 2 of them, you can do all of them if you'd like to! There are also some handwriting practise sheets for these words - joined up and not joined up - choose the one you were doing at school.
