English

Reading: Read pages 16 to 18 of Space Hunt below. We will continue to read the book next week to find out what happens to the crew of the Excelsa. Will they escape from Badlaw? Will they find the last fragment? We'll find out next week!

Today we would like you to be clarifiers. Use a dictionary or the internet to clarify the meaning of these tricky words from the story. Write a definition for each word:

landscape,   deadly,   relentless,   uncertain,   accelerate,   failure 

Spelling

Today we are going to take a look at the 's' sound spelt with the letters sc.

Now have a go at the activities attached below to practise spelling words with the sc spelling. There is:

  • a look, say, cover, write and check sheet
  • a handwriting practice sheet with sc words (choose joined up or not joined up depending on what you did at school)
  • a sc word wordsearch

Maths

Subtraction today! You will be working out subtraction problems by counting backwards. Attached is a number line up to 100. The way to use the number line is to start from the biggest number in the calculation and count back to the smaller number. The number of jumps back is the difference between the numbers.

For example:

74 – 63

We start at 74 and count back to 63. Remember not to count the number you start on as a jump.

 

74, 73, 72, 71, 70, 69, 68, 67, 66, 65, 64, 63

If we make 11 jumps then the difference between 74 and 63 is 11.
