One Childhood, One Chance

Wednesday 15th July

Good morning Team Teal and Team Periwinkle. It is Wednesday already, the final week is whizzing by! Well done to you if you are still completing some (or all) of the home learning tasks each day. We are very proud of you!

Here’s today’s learning:

RWI

The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories.

You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video

If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:

1.   Find the sound ‘ea’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘ea, cup of tea.’ Explain that these are chatty friends (two letters that make one sound but have to be separated by another letter because they talk too much!) When you're finished, point to some other sounds (about 10).

2.    Write down the following words for your child to read (steam, flea, cheap, heap, leap). Remember they need to find the special/chatty friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.

3.    Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (knight, time, playing, about). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.

4.    Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words: sheam, fleag, cheab. Ask your child to spot the special/chatty friends, Fred talk and then read the word.

5.    Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (steam, flea, cheap, heap, leap). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.

It is also important for children to practise reading red words which cannot be Fred talked. These words need to be learnt by sight but can be done so through a variety of fun games. You could write some of the red words down on pieces of paper and play snap, bingo, put them around the room/ garden for children to run to when called out or children could practise writing them out in chalk, paint, sand etc. Knowing these red words will help children become speedier and more confident when reading.

English

Today in English, we will be continue to think about what a story is and what makes a good story. Click on the link below and complete activity two. You could then try putting some of the words you have collected into sentences. Can you make some silly/nonsense/funny sentences with the words?

What makes a good story?

Maths

Today, we will be finding half of an amount. When we want to find half of an amount, we have to put the objects in to two equal groups. Discuss what equal means. Show that half of 4 is 2 by collecting 4 objects and putting them in to two equal groups. Then have a go at answering the following:

Half of 10 =

Half of 6 =

Half of 12 =

Half of 8 =

Half of 14 =

Half of 20 =

Topic – PSHE

Yesterday, children practised what they would do in their talent show. Today, it is their chance to show off their talents. Hopefully the whole family can join in and share their talents too! Remind the children frequently about how we all have different strengths and why it is important to celebrate them!

That is it for today. Only a few more days of home learning before the summer holidays! KEEP GOING!

We hope you have enjoyed your learning!
