One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News - 18/9/20

It has been another fantastic week for Year 4 with lots of fun learning completed!

Being our second full week back we are incredibly impressed with the effort and engagement shown throughout the lessons this week.

In our Maths lessons, we have been focusing on addition. Firstly, we used an empty number line to help us add accurately by partitioning. We then moved on to using the column method, which the children were very confident at demonstrating. Once we had mastered the column method, the children used this formal method tp help solve reasoning and problem-solving questions.

During English, we have continued to read our class text: ‘Gregory Cool’. The text shows describes a boy called Gregory, who has gone to visit his grandparents in Tobago and doesn’t have the best of time to begin with. The children used role play to express the emotions of different characters. Furthermore, pupils created a postcard in which they focused on writing from different viewpoints. The children generated some fantastic vocabulary as we brainstormed events in the book. In addition, the children learned how to write in role as the characters, using the emotive language demonstrating how each character feels.

There has been some brilliant learning in our PSHE lessons this week! The children explored the 'Zones of Regulation' enabling them to build on their understanding of regulating their emotions and feelings. Pupils participated in a range of activities which enabled them to demonstrating the understanding of what it would be like to be in each zone (Red, Blue, Yellow or Green). Furthermore, the children discussed a range of scenarios explaining that you may experience being in several zones due to one's feelings and what strategies to use to move from zone to zone - this generated some excellent answers!
