One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly news! W/b 21st September

What a super week Team Teal and Team Periwinkle have had!

Maths

This week in Maths we have been looking at subtraction. We started the week off by learning how to subtract on a hundred square. We had to remind ourselves that if we are subtracting, the numbers get smaller not bigger! We then moved our learning on to work out tricky subtraction word problems.

The vocabulary we have been using this week is:

This week we have also given the children Times Table Rock Stars log ins. If you follow the instructions on the piece of paper sent home, the children will be able to create their own avatar and play games to apply their times table log ins. At the moment, we have only set the timetables to 1s, 2s and 10s. There is no expectation for this to be done at the moment, however it would be good for the children to get used to the game as this will be something we will be starting to do at school too.

RWI

This week the children have continued their super learning in their Read Write Inc groups. One thing we have been looking at as a year group are contractions and the common exception words. We have been reading contractions but also looking at what the real word is for example he is = he's, should have = should've. For the common exception words, we have been practising reading and writing them. The words we have been looking at are below.

Values

In Values this week we have been looking at 'One Childhood, One Chance'. We have been looking at what that means to us. We linked this to the quote 'You can't just wish on stars, you have to reach for them.' We looked at what we would like to get better at for example 'we would like to be able to swim', 'we would like to be able ride a bike without stabilisers' and how we will not give up until we reach our goals.

Reminders

- Please remember to bring in your PE kits ready for PE on Monday.

- Please make sure the children come in with a water bottle. The children have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink and we have water in the class to refill their water bottles.
