One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly news w/b 5th October 2020

This week in Team Periwinkle and Team Teal we have been learning…

Maths

This week in Maths we have been looking at division. We started the week by dividing by using sharing circles for example..

10 ÷ 2 = 5

Later in the week, we looked at using the grouping method. Instead of the divisor telling us how many sharing circles we would need. This time the divisor told us how many objects were in one group. For example…

10 ÷ 2 = 5

Vocabulary we used this week:

divide

division

share

equal

group

We have continued to work hard with our sounds this week and have been working hard on learning those tricky common exception words! Please continue to practice reading and writing them at home. We have also been looking at how prefixes and suffixes can change a words meaning. For example; happy/unhappy quick/quickest. Amazing work Team Year 2!

Topic

This week in Topic, we have been learning all about the Great Fire of London, Queen Elizabeth I and Quin Shi Huang. We started the week by writing a diary entry as if we were there watching the Great Fire of London. We used our senses to help us structure the diary entry for example we wrote about what we could see, smell and hear.

Later in the week, we looked at the famous Queen Elizabeth I. We learnt about her family, what she was like and her appearance. We made our own inspired crowns and created a fact file on all of the interesting information that we learnt.

When learning about Quin Shi Huang, we could not believe the extreme desire for immortality that he had. As amazing as the terracotta army was, we discussed the lengths he went to to get what he wanted for example hurting others and making them into slaves to make his army.

Reminders…

  • PE is on Monday – Please remember kit.
  • Please remember to tie hair back.
  • Dress up as ‘someone significant from the past’ day – 23rd October i.e. Florence Nightingale, Queen Elizabeth I, Neil Armstrong, Christopher Columbus.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Miss Keam and Miss Davey
