One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly Blog - Friday 9th October

English

This week we started reading our new book called The Green Ship. We have used this book to start writing speech in our narratives. We are now able to use inverted commas, appropriate punctuation and exciting verbs and adverbs to describe the how the speaker is talking.

Maths

We have been working on our multiplication in maths this week. We have used arrays to help us multiply a one digit number by another one digit number and have begun to use mental methods to help us with this too. We have also looked at multiplying by 10 and how to multiply one digit by two digit numbers by partitioning and using the column method.

Topic

In our topic lessons, we have been looking at maps and their properties. We can identify the compass on a map and understand where north, south, east and west are. We have also been working on finding places and icons on a map using four figure grid references and a key. We have also created our own island maps that include all the features we have learnt about.
