One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 16th October 2020

Hello and welcome to the Year 6 blog!

All of Year 6 have been so busy this week: learning, tests, outdoor lessons, poetry performances, baking, PE and drumming to name but a few!

In English, we have been moved by the short animation called 'The Piano'. The film shows us a solitary, elderly gentleman playing a piano. As he plays, he remembers poignant moments in his life and takes us on a roller-coaster of emotion. We have tried really hard to use emotive language.  In Maths, we have been rehearsing the skill of multiplying and dividing by 10. 100 and 1000 by using mental methods. Some of us have used informal jottings to help us. In Topic, we have made Viking houses, using a range of materials and DT skills, such as using tools. See the photo above!

Next week is the last week of term. In Maths, we will be recapping everything we have learnt this term and ensure we can apply these skills in lots of different situations. Some of the topics we will revisit are rounding and negative numbers. In English, we will be continuing to study The Piano. We will be given the challenge of writing in the role of someone else linked to the old man. In Topic, we will be learning about how we can use artefacts from the past to learn information about that period of time. We will also be constructing buildings using unusual materials and learning about how they link to the Vikings.
