One Childhood, One Chance

W/B 19th October 2020 Year 5 Blog

This week

English - This week the children have been learning how to write their own newspaper report about Shackleton's Antarctic voyage.  They have learnt about the 5Ws and how to write an engaging lead to start their report.  The children will continue to write their newspaper report next week.

Maths - The children have been using their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills to solve one and two-step word problems.  They have worked with their partners to secure their understanding before they took part in their individual activities.

Topic - The children have been scientists all week, learning about Antarctica and the harsh conditions found there.  They took part in changing state experiments and recorded their observations.

Next Week

English - The children will continue to write their newspaper reports.  They will edit and improve their writing as well as using direct and indirect speech.  The children will publish their reports at the end of the week!

Maths - Year 5 will be covering time next week.  If your child has an analogue watch, we would like them to wear it to school. We will also be looking at measurement ans time problems.

Topic - Year 5 will be looking at climate change and global warming.  They will take part in experiments, debates and discussions.
