One Childhood, One Chance

W/B 16th November 2020 Weekly Year 5 Blog

This week has certainly been different in Year 5! Whilst Team Peacock and Team Azure have continued to work incredibly hard, Team Ultramarine have been at home and completing their learning online. Mr Abel is extremely proud and impressed with how hard Team Ultramarine have been working and how seamlessly they have adapted to a different, difficult situation.

ENGLISH:

In English this week, we have been looking at expressing viewpoint with reasons, using a range of different sentence openers and using brackets to give extra information. We have written superb diary entries as Jamie, letters to Jamie from his Dad and pieces describing our thoughts on an alien attack on Ramsgate! Next week, we wil be creating a leaflet advertising Earth to the aliens using persuasive language and modal verbs.

MATHS:

In Maths this week, we have been working on fractions. We looked at different method how to find equivalent fractions, we ordered and compared fractions and we then completed a 'division refresher' to recap our dividing skills in preparation for next week. Next week, we will be continuing working on fractions focusing on finding fractions of amounts and writing fractions as decimals.

In our afternoons, we completed some Anti-Bullying work and discussed how we could all 'unite against bullying' with some really sensible and relevant ideas shared. We also completed our Islam RE unit. We learned all about Muhammad and the Qur'an and their importance to Muslims. Next week, we will be beginning our long-awaited Space topic.

LOVE TO LEARN:

For the children's love to learn,

Have a great weekend, we would like the children to design their own game that combines two things: Space and Times Tables. We may even have a go at the best ones in class!
