Weekly News! w/b 15.3.21

What a wonderful jam packed week we have had!

World Book Day Bingo

Message from Miss Davey:

Thank you so much for all of your wonderful entries for the bingo. I am so pleased that you enjoyed it, it looks like you all had SO much fun. I loved seeing all of your photos and completed sheets – there were so many! I placed all of the entries into a random name generator and the winner is….. *drum roll*….. Rosie in Team Cyan! Thank you all for your entries and super reading.

Guided Reading

In Guided Reading this week we continued our learning on the story book ‘Max’ by Bob Graham. We explored the book in many ways this week for example finding links to other stories, created a conscious alley, looking at rhyming words in the story AND summarising the story in 10 words.

We were so good at summarising! We came up with words such as

  • Phantom
  • Superhero
  • Frustration
  • Flying
  • Captain Lightning
  • Madam Thunderbolt
  • Max
  • Pressure
  • Bird
  • Legend

English

In English this week we focussed on writing in first person. We reminded ourselves that if we are talking in first person we use I.

We wrote a variety of ways this week to practice this skill such as writing a postcard, a diary entry and retelling specific parts of the story as characters in the book.

From next week, we will be starting to complete spelling tests. We have noticed that some of our spellings that we knew very well before lockdown have disappeared a little bit! We will be doing this on a Friday and the children will be able to take their tests home to share the results. In class we will be practising these spellings too. This week’s spellings are…

door
floor
poor
because
find
kind
mind
behind
child
children

Maths

In Maths this week we focussed on fractions! We started the week by linking in last week’s learning of shape to find fractions of shapes. We focussed our learning on halves, quarters and some of us looked at thirds.

We then moved our learning on to finding fractions of numbers. We learnt that a fraction has a numerator and denominator. The denominator tells us how many equal groups we need and the numerator tells us how many sharing circles to look into. We were awesome at this J

Topic

In Topic this week we celebrated all of our learning by creating slider pictures that had to include an interesting fact. We had so much fun creating these! Not only did we get to show our creative sides, we got to share our favourite fact of an insect!

Later in the week we planned and made our very own insect houses in groups. We ensured that they had everything an insect might need e.g. shelter. We placed them in the Forest School for all of the school insects! J

ART COMPETITION!

Reminders

  • PE is on a Monday. Please come into school in your PE kit.
  • Please remember to tie hair back.
  • Please remember to bring in a water bottle into school. We have cups and water available but if we go on the field and take water bottles the cups tend to fall over!
  • Keep reading you reading superstars!
