One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 7.6.21

WOW! What a first week back it has been. Here is what we have been up to in Year 2…

Guided Reading

This week, we continued looking at the book ‘Grace and Family’ We started off by creating our own ‘orchestra’. We used our voices and  body percussion, to create a soundscape of the Gambian market. We thought of sounds we might hear and discussed how we could create these. We answered some tricky questions about the book and summarised the story.

English

On Thursday we celebrated our learning, and the story, by trying traditional African fruit, creating our own clothes with some amazing African prints and tried on a traditional African outfit. We also discovered how hard it is to carry items on our head, just like they did in the story! This inspired us to use some wonderful adjectives when writing setting descriptions and we all wrote some wonderful diary entries as Grace!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been looking at Fractions! We started to explore the idea of equivalent fractions. We made our own fraction walls and started answering equivalent fraction questions. Take a look at our super learning!

Topic

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a week we have had. This term our Topic is all based around Science. Our first Science topic is Animals including Humans. On Monday we had some very special guests arrive in Year 2. DUCKLINGS! We have been closely observing the eggs, making predictions of what we think will happen and witnessing their developments. They happily hatched on Wednesday (Egg finally hatched on Thursday) and we would love to introduce to you all; Lucky, Ping Pong, Richard, Sunflower and Egg. We will update the blog as often as we can with pictures and news. The ducklings will be with us until next Thursday.

We have also been looking at other animals’ offspring, creating our own life cycle wheels and labelling body parts, by drawing around our own bodies! To start off our topic, we all discussed what we think came first, the chicken or the egg and matched some adult pictures with baby pictures of Chilton teachers!

Blue Peter Badges!

We would just like to say how proud we are of you all. We think you are amazing. They have all received their very own Blue Peter Green badge! Well done Year 2!

Please take full advantage of this, by signing up to receive your Blue Peter Card, where all children, in Year 2, will get free entry into over 200 locations!

Love to Learn

We would love for you to write about your week with the ducklings. We would like you to tell us what has happened this week, what the ducklings are like and how it made you feel. Please feel free to include drawings!
