One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 11.6.21

English

Year 3 have come back to their final term with a bang! We have started reading The Magic Faraway Tree and using our descriptive skills to write character descriptions for some of the magical friends we have met. We have used expanded noun phrases, verbs and adverbs to create wonderful descriptions of The Saucepan Man, Silky and Moonface. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and have produced some brilliant work.

Maths

This week, we have been looking at measurement of length. We have used metres, centimetres and millimetres to measure and compare objects and measurements. We have also been converting our measurements using our knowledge of how many mm are in a cm and how many cm are in a m.

RE

In RE, we have been studying the religion of Islam. We have looked at the five pillars of Islam, naming ceremonies and Islamic weddings. We have seen how these rites of passage are important to Muslims, what they consist of and how they act on them to help their community and show their faith.

Home Learning

For your home learning, we would like you to create your own land that can be visited through the Faraway Tree. We have visited Topsy-Turvy Land and The Land of Potions in the first 5 chapters that we have read. Your task is to create your own land! It could be a land of ice cream, where everything is made of a different flavours of ice cream. It could be Robot Land, where all of the people that live there are robots and the houses are made of metal. It's up to you. Be creative and create your land by drawing it, painting it, creating it with lego, anything you want. Have fun!
