One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly Blog Post - 3.9.21

Welcome everyone to Year 3! The first two days back have been fantastic. Everyone has settled in well and are ready for a busy and exciting term. This week's blog will contain some information about the year and a brief overview of this term. Pleas resee the blog each week for more information on what we have learnt in each subject.

English

In English this term, our writing unit is called Adventure Stories, Quests and Myths. We will be reading The Princess and The White Bear King by Tanya Robyn Batt and The Green Ship Quentin Blake. The children will be learning how to write character and setting descriptions as well as how to write a dialogue.

Maths

This term, we will be covering number and place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.

Topic and PSHE

We have begun the year with some PSHE learning focusing on the Chilton Motto 'One Childhood, One Chance'. The children are also learning about The Chilton Way Rules and our values.

Our Topic this term is called Island Life. In History, we will be learning about the Roman Empire. In Geography, we will be learning about maps, geographical features and about parts of rivers. In Art, we will be creating sculptures using clay, using the art technique call 'batik' we will be creating fish artwork and learning how to create an island sunset picture.

Messages

Can we please remind parents that children are still unfortunately unable to bring items in from home, to school e.g pencil cases and fiddle toys.

Please send your child in every day with a water bottle as the children are still not able to use the water fountains.

Our P.E day is Wednesday and we would like the children to come to school wearing their P.E kit (plain white T-Shirt, black, navy or grey joggers and jumper) every Wednesday.

On a Tuesday, we will be participating in The Sports Project which means the children will need to come in wearing trainers (not full kit) to be able to participate.

We will be checking the children's reading records every Friday, so please ensure that your child takes their reading record in to school every Friday.

Love To Learn will be set each Friday and will need to be handed in by the following Wednesday. New Love To Learn books will be issued next week.

Many thanks,

Mrs Cousins and Mr Mason
