One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News w/b 18.10.21

Happy end of term! What a wonderful term it has been. The children have settled into Year 1 life brilliantly, and we could not be more proud of them all.

This week in Team Indigo and Team Royal we have been learning…

Read, Write Inc.

This week, some of us have had our last lessons in the groups we are currently in and have all made wonderful progress! We have continued working hard and putting are all into every single part of our lessons.

Each day in class we have a red word of the day! We have a carrousel of activities involving this word and is certainly a highlight of the day! Here are some of the activities we get up too…

We also write in water play, play splat the bat (Halloween special!), paint the words and make them with playdough! I am sure some children will love to show you some of these activities at home! We would love to challenge you over the half-term to practise your red words in the most creative ways possible. This could be spelling them out with Halloween treats, making them with slime or writing them in sand, the opportunities are endless! Please record these in your love to learn books.

Maths

This week in Maths we have been recapping our learning on number bonds to 10. This time, using a tens frame. The tens frame represents the numbers that are added together to make the 10.

We then moved our learning on by adding different numbers using a tens frame. And making numbers past 10! For example; 12 + 6 = 18

We ended the week by using our knowledge from this term, by answering a range of tricky addition and subtraction questions. We had to read the number sentence carefully and make sure we didn’t get the symbols muddled up!

RE

This week we enjoyed learning about our wonderful world and what makes it so special. We learnt about the creation story and made some wonderful creation wheels to show our learning. We then illustrated pictures matching the description of heaven described by Hindus and Christians. To end our week we identified things that make our world special and answered questions about the importance of looking after the world we live in.
