One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 5th November

The children have settled back in to school so brilliantly after the October half term. Thank you for helping your child to complete their Love to Learn task. They are amazing, and we will be sharing these over this term (the next task will be set at the end of this term).

Phonics:

The children have spent the week practising the sounds previously taught. This week we have recapped the sounds: b, g, d, p. Next week, we will be going in to new RWI groups which will be led by a member of the EYFS team. This means that we can provide more personalised learning for the children.

Maths:

This week, we have been learning to form and write numbers correctly. We have done this in a range of different ways and the children have done amazing well with this. We use specific patters to help with writing the numbers. These are

1 – start at the top and down we run, that’s the way we make a 1

2 – round and back on the railway track, 2, 2 2,

3 – round the tree and round the tree, that’s the way we make a 3

4 – down and across and down some more, that’s the way we make a 4

5 – down and around and a flag on high, that’s the way we make a 5

You could use these patters at home to help your child if they are writing numbers.

Topic:

This week we have had so much fun in topic! We have been learning about the Diwali celebration. We have learned what people who celebrate Diwali do during this festival, we tried some of the foods associated with the festival and made diva lamps from clay and painted them. We also took part in a fabulous Diwali dance workshop which the children did amazingly well in. today, we made edible sparklers. Lots of the children said they would like to make these at home. You will need a breadstick, dip it in some chocolate spread and then roll it in hundreds and thousands (or other sprinkles). There are some photos attached of Team Topaz showing off their edible sparklers!

We hope that you have a restful weekend, and we cannot wait to see the children next week for another fun packed week of learning!
