Well done Year 5 for a great first week back!
English
This week, we have began a new book called ‘The Jamie Drake Equation’. We have read the first two chapters and summarised these to support our understanding of the text. In our written work, we have focussed on using figurative language to create our own aliens, just like Jamie Drake in the book. We have been very impressed by the similes and metaphors that everyone has used to describe their own aliens. Next week, we will move on to develop these skills further by describing a setting from the book.
Maths
In maths, we have been learning about fractions. At the start of the week, we focussed on finding equivalent fractions, and then moved on to use this skill to compare and order. Next week, we will continue our learning on fractions by learning how to find fractions of amount.
PSHE
Our focus in our afternoon learning this week has been around the theme of kindness. We read a book called ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?’ and discussed the impact that being kind has on others. We then created our own buckets for other people to fill with kind messages.
Home Learning
For this week’s home learning, please could you create your own alien! This can be presented in any way that you wish.
