One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 15.11.21

What a busy week we have had Year 1!

This week in Team Indigo and Team Royal we have been learning…

Read, Write Inc.

This week we have enjoyed learning our sounds and practising our red words!

Some of us are still finding our letter formation a little tricky, and sometimes forgetting which way around our letters go. Here is how we write our letters at school. If you have any spare time at home, practising these would be really beneficial.

Maths

This week in Maths we have continued learning about money!

We started the week by making different amounts! We transformed the classrooms into shops and went around making the amounts of the labelled items in the class/shop! We then discussed the variety of possibilities we could use when making amounts and had to find at least two ways of making one amount. i.e. 10p = 5p+5p or 5p + 2p + 2p + 1p or 2p +2p +2p + 2p + 2p.

We ended the week by looking at change by taking away! We visited the classroom shops again and were each given an amount to spend. We then had to take away the price of the item from the amount we started with. We used a number line or 100 square to help us.

Keep up this amazing hard work Year 1!

Healthy Relationships Week - Anti-bullying; One Kind Word

This week we have been looking at the importance of being kind and how we can solve problems. We discussed what bullying is as a class;

Bullying is a repeated aggressive behaviour where one person (or group of people) in a position of power deliberately intimidates, abuses, or coerces an individual with the intention to hurt that person physically or emotionally. Acts of bullying can be physical or verbal.

We role-played bullying scenarios, made comic strip scenarios, spoke about the people we trust and can talk to and discussed kind things we could do to help those that have or are being bullied.

We spoke about the importance of speaking out and telling someone about our worries. We learnt about the worry boxes in our classrooms and named people who we can trust.

Love 2 Learn

This week we would love for you to make a piece of art work based on your favourite season! This could be on paper or a model of something! You can be creative as you want! Here are some examples;

Wingham Wildlife Junior Journalist opportunity!

Wingham Wildlife park are on the hunt for two new Junior Journalists!

For one year (Jan-Dec) the Junior Journalists can write or vlog about anything they want to at our park, from their trip overall to a new animal they enjoyed seeing for the first time- your imagination is the limit!

Wingham Wildlife Park are inviting these budding journalists to create a new piece of work each season, which we will then share on our website.

They are looking for,

-1 child aged 5-10

-1 teen aged 11-16

and you may include your own photographs, drawings or other resources to create the articles which can be as long (or short) as they like.

This will include a free family ticket for 2 adults, our Junior Journalist and a sibling to visit the park four times during the year. Our previous Junior journalist articles can be found on the website here, https://winghamwildlifepark.co.uk/author/ellie/ and here, https://winghamwildlifepark.co.uk/author/molly/ and as you can see they were amongst the first to see the orangutans and were even invited for experiences so who knows what the year ahead may hold for our newbies!

If your child is interested in these exciting roles then all they have to do is e-mail office@winghamwildlifepark.co.uk to tell us why they want to be our Junior Journalist This e-mail is an opportunity for them to show off their writing/presentation skills and must be produced by them.

They can’t wait to see the applications!
