One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly Learning 26.11.21

In maths this week, the children were working on their understanding of 2D and 3D shapes. Not only did they identify their properties, they worked on being able to represent them visually. Towards the end of the week, the children investigated different types of lines: parallel, perpendicular and diagonal lines. In addition, they identified different parts of a circle: the diameter, radius and circumference.

In English, the children were writing in role as the characters in 'Skellig'. They focused on applying the correct tense in their writing as well as being able to reflect characterisation.  In addition, they created their own clay model of one of Mina’s sketches from the text!

It was quite a week in Topic! The children continued their learning about the heart and experienced an actual dissection of a lamb’s heart as well as creating their own anatomical sketch based on those of Leonardo da Vinci. The children were extremely engaged in this learning and immersed themselves in identifying the different parts of the muscle.

Next Week:

In maths, the children will move on to study area and perimeter. They will start off by finding the area of quadrilaterals. They will then move on to finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes. Finally, at the end of the week, the children will explore finding the area for triangles.

Next week, in English, the children will focus on poetic form. They will reflect on the themes the author has consistently referred to in the text and infer why this might be. From this study, the children will identify a theme they would like to focus on and write a poem based on this. They will gather vocabulary and create phrases of description. The main focus will be on figurative language.  In terms of structure, they will think about how to organise their ideas into stanzas and consider rhyme, syllables and rhythm.

In Topic, the children will investigate the lungs, their properties and function. They will go on to make their own paper-bag lungs! Later in the week, the children will reflect on how to maintain a balanced diet and stay healthy. They will investigate super foods and even get to try a selection of them

Home Learning

We have selected a few My Maths tasks based on fractions.

SPAG:

We would like the children to investigate apostrophes. They should describe the different ways possessive apostrophes can be used. In addition, they should detail how apostrophes are used for omission and provide examples of these.

Please remember the maths challenge for this term. It is an optional challenge.
