One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 11.2.22

As a Year 4 team we would like to well done to everyone! Some of the work that has been done and the effort that has been put in really has been incredibly so thank you and you should be proud of yourselves!

Maths

This week we have been learning about position and direction. This has consisted of plotting and moving coordinates. We have concentrated on the horizontal and vertical axis whilst learning along the corridor up the stairs. The children have really enjoyed themselves and we even finished off with a game of battleships!

English

We have continued and finished our book this week called ‘The Water Tower’. The children seemed to really enjoy the mystery off the book and how even at the end of the book they didn’t know what was going to happen! We also planned and created our own mystery stories which included suspense, sentence openers, conjunctions and paragraphs. Some outcomes were amazing!

Topic

This week in art we have been looking at and recreating famous album covers. From the likes of The Beetles, Andy Warhol, Queen and many more!

It has been safety Internet week, so we have also been concentrating on how to be kind online and how to be safe online. The children have found it fascinating and worthwhile!

World Book Day

World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March.  Children are invited to dress up as any character from a book.  They can also bring in a book to share with their class.

Throughout the day, the children will read a variety of stories with their class teacher and hear other adults read their favourite story or poem via a video link. The children’s learning during the day will focus on ‘Poetry for All’ and every class will explore a different poetry text.  The children will take part in reading and performing poetry, writing creatively and exploring the text’s illustrations to inspire their writing.

All children have been given a reading bingo card that offers a wide range of challenges that they can complete at home (either one challenge or many). Please sign your child’s bingo card and return to school by Friday 4th March.  Winners will be chosen and prizes will be given.

Children in years 2-6 will be set a MyOn reading challenge.  They can access this challenge via www.myon.co.uk

We are going to be junk modelling for out art part of world book day. Can you try and find as many shoebox lids as you can! It will be very much appreciated.

We hope you have a lovely half-term!

The Year 4 Team.
