One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News for Team Cyan and Team Turquoise w/b 14th March

Guided Reading

In Guided Reading this week the children finished up their learning on Max by Bob Graham. We have looked at making decisions such as if you were a superhero, would you tell someone or would you keep it a secret?

We answered comprehension questions such as....

We made links between The Gruffalo, Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and Max. We looked at characters, settings, clothes etc, we wrote amazing poetry, and we summarised the story. What a week we have had!

Next week we start a new book 'How to Find Gold' by Viviane Schwarz.

English

In English this week we have written diary entries, letters and postcard as Max! We were writing in first person and tried our very best to use a range of adjectives too. We are becoming so confident with our English knowledge. Miss Howell and myself are so incredibly proud of the children.

Maths

In Maths this week we have been recapping our learning on multiplication and division but using it in the context of length. We have been recapping the skills of using jottings such as arrays or sharing circles to help us. We have become so confident with these skills that some of us were answering challenge 2 step word problems! WOAH!

In Maths next week, we will be looking at fractions!

Topic

In Topic this week, we have been looking at Geography! We were superb geographers when using a compass to help us to locate different locations around the world when thinking about continents and oceans. Some of the children have asked me to put the songs we have played to help us remember them.

7 continents song.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYn0HSVePbA

5 oceans song...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6BE4VcYngQ

We then moved our learning on by learning about human and physical geographical features.

Human = It is manmade for example villages, towns, buildings, bridges

Physical = it has been created by nature for example oceans, cliffs and beaches.

We then used this learning to contrast the UK and South America, take a look at some of us in action.

We will be finishing off our topic next week by looking at animal needs and life cycles!

Love to Learn
