One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! w/b 21.3.22

We have had a wonderful week in Year 1!

This week in Team Indigo and Team Royal we have been learning…..

Read, Write Inc.

This week in Read, Write Inc. we have been working so hard phonetically reading words. In particular, we have been looking for special friends in our words, saying the sounds and reading the word. Any practise at home reading a word by finding the special friends, saying the sounds and reading the word would be greatly appreciated!

Maths

This week in maths we have been looking at fractions. We have been finding out half and a quarter of a shape. We have also been finding the fractions of numbers by sharing equally. For example, ½ of 8 is 4. ¼ of 12 is 3.

Topic

This week in R.E we have been finding out about the life of Jesus Christ. In particular we looked at the good Samaritan and what Jesus taught at the Sermon on the Mount.

To end the week, we looked at the story of Jesus helping all people by showing equality and kindness and making them feel better. We made cards for people that are feeling ill and poorly to cheer them up.

Next week

Next week in maths we will be looking at time. In particular we will be estimating duration of time in seconds, minutes and hours. We will also be comparing time filling in the missing word of a sentence with slower, quicker, earlier or later. Finally, to end the week with time we will be looking at half past and recapping o’clock.

In topic next week to finish term 4 we will be looking at Easter around the world.

Competition

We are very excited to announce that we have been invited to enter the Turner Contemporary's annual art competition.

This year’s theme Belonging is inspired by the work of Ingrid Pollard who will be bringing her major solo show to Turner Contemporary in Summer 2022. Pollard uses film, photography, sculpture and installation to explore ideas of identity.

This will be explored more throughout our PSHE topic next term; Be Here, Be You, Belong.

As well as taking part in art work within school, we are asking you to design something at home! With the theme being ‘belonging’ you can design anything from a painting, sculpture, contemporary dance or speech!

The winner of this competition will have their work exhibited at the Turner contemporary!

By your child entering this competition, you will be giving permission for their piece of art to be possibly displayed at the Tuner contemporary.

Please bring in your designs or send any videos to Mrs Winchcombe (poppy.winchcombe@chiltonprimary.co.uk) by the 28th April. These will then be passed on to the Turner Contemporary.

Have an amazing weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week!

Mrs Winchcombe, Miss Hall, Mr Allen, Miss Miles
