What a wonderful week Year 5 have had to end Term 4. Well done for all the fantastic effort put in to all the Greek day costumes!

English 

In English this week, we finished off our own Greek myths focusing on using powerful verbs and ambitious adverbs to add to our description and dialogue. The stories were created were fantastic. We also finished the story of 'The Adventures of Odysseus' (and completed the AR quiz) before sharing our thoughts on whether the story came through a gate of ivory or a gate of horn.

Maths

In Maths this week, we have revisited multiplication and division to improve our formal calculation skills. We spent a day multiplying, focusing on the column method and a day dividing, focusing on the bus stop method. We then used our finally tuned multiplication and division skills to complete an investigation into a geological expedition to a volcano!

Topic

This week, we finished our 'Gods and Mortals' Ancient Greece topic. After learning about how the Greeks told stories, we designed our own Greek vases depicting our favourite Greek myths. We then made our vases out of clay. On our Greek Day, we enjoyed a Greek picnic as well as completing in our own mini ancient Olympics before settling down to enjoy Disney's depiction of 'Hercules'.

Messages:

- Next term, PE will be changing to FRIDAY. Please could children continue to wear their (correct) PE kit to school.

- Our extra PE (Sports Project) day will change from Tuesday to WEDNESDAY. On Wednesdays, please can children wear full school uniform but with trainers.

- Please can children continue to practise times tables on TTRS and reading (completing quizzes on AR) when they have any free time during the break (obviously, please also enjoy your break; there will be no other home learning tasks set.)
