  1. A MyOn book has been set for home learning.  It is about WW2.  The children must read the book and take a quiz on this.  Access MyOn here using the children’s AR using name and password - https://www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html
  2. Two My Maths challenges have been set here https://login.mymaths.co.uk/login

English learning this week:

The children have continued to read their year 6 text – Rose Blanche.  The children have been combining their English and Topic lessons this week to fully immerse themselves into World War 2.  The children have learnt about who started WW2 and who were involved.  They also learnt about who was affected by WW2.  Year 6 have sent time reading and exploring WW2 texts and have used this knowledge to write information about the Holocaust and Anne Frank.  Next week, the children will continue to learn about WW2 to explore The Blitz; they will write in role.  We will also explore what propaganda is and create our own artwork, writing and news broadcast linked to it.

Maths this week:

The children returned to Four Operations this week.  They explored dividing 2-digit numbers and long division.  We also spent some time exploring inverse and worked together to calculate number problems.  Year 6 have been tasked to plan and teach a Year 6 maths lesson to a group of Year 5 children – they can choose any maths subject to demonstrate their mathematical understanding.

Next week Year 6’s maths will focus on co-ordinates and translating shapes. They will also teach their chosen maths lesson to a group of Year 5 children!

Afternoon lessons:

This week, the children returned to our computing curriculum, exploring how a search engine works.  They researched WW2, creating a detailed timeline in their Topic books.  Friday afternoon saw the children learn more about Adolf Hitler and the result of his actions in WW2.

Next week the children will learn more about what happened in our country in WW2 (the Blitz) and more about where and why children were evacuated to different locations. They will continue with their computing lessons and then finish the week with their exit point in Topic – a VE Day Celebration!
