Term 3 Week 3

Maths

This week in Maths we started the week by recapping our learning of addition on a tens frame. We then moved onto adding on a number line! We are so good at this! We now know to circle the biggest number add to jump on the smaller number. To make it easier to see the answer we underline the number we end on. Later in the week we started to think carefully about the language we use when adding so words like plus, add, altogether. We then had a go at answering word problems looking for those buzz words!

Topic

Safe to say we kicked off our Topic with a brightly coloured WOW moment! We had so many giggles with our clubbercise on Wednesday, we showed some awesome moves and also learnt a few new ones too! Later in the week we started our science learning. So far this week we have learnt that we have 5 senses. We became scientists on Wednesday and had to see if we could identify something just by smelling it. We found it was doable but it is much easier if we can see the object with our eyes. We then moved onto hearing, we learnt how when something makes a noise it sends off sound waves and these sound waves go to our ears and are ears send a message to the brain.

Term 3 Art Competition – self-portraits!

On Wednesday 16th January, we had the wonderful Mrs Walton introduce our termly art competition task. This term we ask children to create their very own self portrait. This could be done in any way they like! It could be a photo, it could be a pencil drawing, a painting etc. It could be in any style but the idea is that it represents them.

Home Learning - Maths NSPCC Day!

As part of the NSPCC’s Number Day on 1st February there will be a break time maths themed cake sale! For your child’s home learning we invite you to design and create maths themed cakes to help with our cake sale. For example, different shaped cakes or cakes with maths related toppings -be as creative as you like!  We ask, if you do this, that you bring these in from January 30th to February 1st to your class teacher or to Miss Lane’s Classroom (Team Indigo).

A reminder, children will need to be dressed up Maths themes on this day. It might be numbers, symbols, shapes anything! Please don’t go out and spend money, if you don’t have any just come in wearing brightly coloured clothes and maybe put some face paint on!
