Year 5

Welcome to Term 4 and welcome to our blog. Each week we will update you with what we have been learning.

Reminders:

World Book Day: 7^th March

PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

We started our new book ‘Wolf Brother’ this week. Already, the children are hooked! The opening chapter introduces us to the ‘possessed bear’ so we wrote a detailed description of its menacing appearance and actions. We then wrote a newspaper report about the bear attack that appears in the opening scene.

In maths, we have been learning to add money using the part, part, whole method. This method helps us develop our mental adding skills. We applied it to planning a holiday and buying items from the Argos catalogue. This helped put the adding into context.

We have continued to learn about the British Values and how they affect our lives, the school community and the wider community.

Our topic this term in The Great, The Bold and The Brave. To introduce the topic, we became architects and builders and created our own buildings inspired by Greek and Roman architecture.

Home Learning:

Maths - Complete the set mymaths task.

SPaG -  create a poster about the different tenses (past, present and future).

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
