Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 blog. Each week we will update you with what we have been learning.

Reminders:

Please complete the permission form for our school trip on Wednesday 3rd April. We are looking for parent helpers so if you are able to help please let us know.

Monday 18th March –Science Day

PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

We have continued to read the book ‘Wolf Brother’, it is as gripping as ever and is giving us lots of ideas for our writing. Our writing has been to write a continuation of the story in a narrative style. We have been varying our sentence structures for effect, using ambitious vocabulary and including advanced punctuation.

In Maths, we have been converting units of time. The children have been challenged with a range of question types and have been able to apply their understanding in different ways.

Here is one of the challenges…

Daniella saves 10p a day. Her target is to save £4.50. How many weeks and days will it take?

In our Topic lessons we have been learning about  ‘Alexander the Great’. We completed a research quiz and wrote an interview with this famous figure from history.

Home Learning:

Monday is Science Day at Chilton therefore Love to Learn this week is to create a shoebox space scene.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
