Weekly News!

Year 5

Welcome to the Year 5 blog. Each week we will update you with what we have been learning.

Reminders:

School Trip to Richborough Roman Fort WED 3rd APRIL – please bring a waterproof jacket; wear sensible shoes (it is a grassy, possibly muddy area) and have any relevant medication. There is a gift shop so children are allowed to bring up to £5. Lunch and PE will be at school as usual.

Friday 5th April is the last day of term – school ends at 2pm.

Children in Years 3-6 are invited to create their own Easter bonnet or hat if they would like to for the last day of term (Friday 5th April). The winner from each year group will be selected by their teachers during the day.

PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

We have read a lot of Wolf Brother this week and the story is as intense as ever! This has helped up to write a narrative based on two of the chapters. We have been practising writing dialogue and have worked hard to make the punctuation accurate and the narrative leading in and out of it engaging and exciting for the reader.

In maths we have be learning how to measure and draw angles. Using a protractor accurately is a challenge so we have been working hard to make sure our readings have been as accurate as possible.

Topic lessons have continued with learning about the Romans. We learnt about ‘What the Romans did for us’ (quite a lot!) and the fall of the Roman Empire. We debated the importance of the Roman’s contributions to Britain – did you know the Romans introduced cats and glass to the UK? Ask your children to find out more!

Home Learning:

We are going to Richborough Fort on Wednesday. Your Love to Learn is to find out as much as you can about Richborough Roman Fort and the Romans in the local area.

Children in Years 3-6 are invited to create their own Easter bonnet or hat if they would like to for the last day of term (Friday 5th April). The winner from each year group will be selected by their teachers during the day.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
