Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

The Piano by Aidan Gibbons has inspired our writing this week. We watched the short emotion evoking film as a class; first just listening to the music then with the images. We discussed its meaning and generated vocabulary based on the music and actions in the film. Our writing was a descriptive recount of the events. We have started by describing the setting and introducing the main character. Our writing will continue next week.

In maths, we have been developing our understanding of reading and understanding timetables. We have looked closely at the information timetable contain and how to read it accurately. Once we were confident with that, we applied our understanding to calculating journey times and choosing appropriate journeys to take in order to meet a specific time. We used timelines and our knowledge of converting time to support of learning.

Our RE learning has been about who Muhammad was and why he is an important figure in Islam. We created freeze frame of the story if Muhammad and used pic collage to record our learning. We then completed quiz about Muhammad and considered what difference he made and the similarities the faith shares with other religions.

Year 5 were invited to Clarendon and Chatham Grammar School for a ‘STEAM Day’. The Children were able to participate in a range of science activities.

Home Learning:

Complete the mymaths task.

SPAG challenge: Write five silly sentences that include words that have prefixes and suffixes.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
