Year 5

Welcome to year 5’s final newsletter for the 2018 - 2019 academic year. It has been a pleasure to teach this year group and we wish them all the best for Year 6!

Key Dates:

Tuesday 23rd July – Last day of term. 2pm end time.

Learning this week:

This week, our writing has been focused on a short film called Pere Lachaise – this film is based on a real-life setting – a cemetery in Paris. We have written a short narrative that has created atmosphere. Our learning has focused on careful vocabulary choices and using sentence structures to build tension and suspense.

In maths, we have consolidated our learning of the four operations. This has involved answering a range of questions based on the different operations. We have used RUCSAC to help our understating of the questions and used various methods and strategies to find the answer.

We completed our ‘Out of Africa’ topic by visiting the school’s forest area and presenting our culinary skills based on our previous week’s work – prehistoric menu writing. We had some interesting nettle stews and baked elks (which you will be pleased to know were make believe!).

Home Learning:

Have a fantastic summer!
