One Childhood, One Chance

Welcome to Y5!

Please enter an introduction for your blog post here.

Year 5

Welcome to Year 5’s weekly newsletter. Please check here to see what your child’s weekly learning has been and of any notices.

Reminders:

PE is every Wednesday afternoon. Year 5 swimming starts next week (11th September) so please ensure your child has a full swim kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

In English, we have been writing descriptive recounts of our summer holidays. To help plan and inspire our writing, we created group tableauxs and discussed our summer experiences. In reading we highlighted and annotated an exemplar recount text and used these to identify key features.

In maths, the term has started with place value. We have been learning the place value of digits in numbers (up to millions). To support and show our learning we have used a range of resources.

Our afternoons have been focused on the Chilton Values and the Chilton Way. We have created pieces of artwork to show how we plan to be courageous in the future which links to our ‘One Childhood, One Chance’ saying.

Home Learning:

Research Antarctica. It could be about an animal that lives there, a person who has visited it or about the continent’s climate. You can write about Antarctica, draw a picture or create a model.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
