Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News - Friday 13.9.19

What another fantastic week in Year 1! It has been amazing to see the children settle back in to Chilton so quickly - well done to all!

Reminders:

WEDNESDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER: Children will need to come to school dressed as someone from a job they would like to do when they are older (e.g. nurse, doctor, writer, artist).  We do not want you to spend lots of money on these costumes but be creative with what you already have at home.  The child may just need a prop being brought in and that is fine!

PE will take place for year 1 every Monday afternoon.

Advanced warning: KS1 Harvest will take place in the school hall on Tuesday 1st October from 9-9.30.

Home Learning:

Many thanks to the children who have already completed their first love to learn challenge (to decorate their books).  Please do make sure that they are sent in by Wednesday 18th September so that we can look at the wonderful designs.

Maths:

In maths the week, the children have been learning to compare numbers using more and less.  They have also been practising finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number (see the photos below of Team Teal using counters and cubes to help them find 1 more and 1 less).  You could practise these skills at home by using real objects (e.g. pieces of pasta, leaves from the garden).

RE

We have completed our first RE unit this week (What a Wonderful World!) The children described different wonderful things in the world (e.g. a rainbow over a waterfall).  They also learned about how different religions believe the world was created and they have learned about what trees can be used for (shelter, providing food etc).

As always, if you have any questions, please speak to us at the classroom door or send us an email.

Many thanks, The Year 1 Team
