One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 14.9.19

Another great week in year 3!

English

For English we have continued to read The Princess and The White Bear King.  We have used this book to help us describe various settings, such as the Bear’s Castle and the snowy forest that surrounds it. We have continued to focus on our use of expanded noun phrases and verbs and adverbs to make our settings richer and more vivid.

Maths

In Maths we have used our knowledge of place value and partitioning from last week to help us in our addition work. We have explored different ways to add numbers, including using and empty number line, partitioning and the column method. We have successfully built on the knowledge gained from year two, adding numbers from two digits together up to five digits together.

Topic

We started out topic this week, asking the question: What is an Island? We came up with lots of ideas as to what makes an island and island and identified various countries that are an island or are made up of multiple islands. We also drew what we though an island might look like and included some of the features they may have.
