Maths
This week, we have been tackling multiplication. We started by working out one digit times one digit using arrays. Next we started to multiply single digit numbers by counting in our heads. Finally, we have been multiplying two digit numbers by one digit numbers. First by using our ten times tables and then by using the grid method to solve problems such as 13 x 3 and 24 x 7.
English
We have finished our book, The Princess and The White Bear King, however we loved it so much we decided to write a sequel. We first planned the location, the Troll Queen’s plan for revenge and the ending of our sequels. When we began our writing our focus was to include regular past tense verbs (hopped, cruised, trapped) and irregular past tense verbs (swam, swung, won). We were able to successfully write some interesting sequels to our book, some with happy endings, some with sad endings and some with rather gruesome endings.
Topic
In topic, we have been looking at the human and physical features of an island. Features such as beaches, cliffs, mountains and forests can all be classified as physical features, as they were not created by humans. Shops, houses and roads are created by humans and can be categorised as human features. We also looked into maps and their uses. We were able to compare different types of maps and decide what they might be good for and who would use them. We also looked at large scale maps, which are zoomed in on a small area, and small scale maps, such as maps of whole countries or cities.
