One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 17th January

Year 5 have had a fantastic week!

Friday 17th January 2020

Please read here to find out what Year 5 have been learning and about upcoming dates for the diary.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily. Please sign their record and encourage them to read a range of genres. There are banded books in school in addition to the books in the school’s library and the class book corner (including those in the ‘Classics Challenge’).

Notice

The children are invited to dress up as a character / person linked to our topic – The great, the bold and the brave on Thursday 6th February 2020.  The children will take part in activities including: food tasting, mosaic making, drama, pottery and Greek Olympics.

Learning this week:

English – The children have this week created their own mythical creature (linked to our book Odysseus).  They have described their character and its habitat and diet.  The children then used their information to create a non-chronological report about their creature.

Maths – The children have worked incredibly hard sequencing numbers and finding the difference between two numbers in a sequence.  They have also looked at negative numbers and how to read scales with negative numbers and to find the difference.

RE- The children have this week learnt about the Jewish community and their rituals.  They have completed tasks about Shabbat, Bat and Bar Mitzvah and looking at how faith is expressed through worship.

Home Learning:

Thank you for our fabulous comic strips – they were brilliant and funny!

We would like the children to complete a MyMaths activity for their home learning focusing on number sequences and rounding numbers to the nearest given multiple.

Please also find attached this term’s Maths Challenge – to be completed and handed to Miss Lane no later than Monday 10th FebruaryScroll down to find the Challenge attached.

Year 5 have been invited to take part in the Viking Academy Trust Speaker Competition.
