Well done to Year 5 on another fantastic week's work. Thank you for all the wonderfully decorated Love to Learn books! Here's what we've been up to this week:
English:
This week, we have been crafting a newspaper report detailing Shackleton's departure to Antarctica. We have built our paragraphs focusing on writing in chronological order, using formal language and controlling our tenses. Next week, we will be looking at two different perspectives of Shackleton and his nature as a leader.
Maths:
This week, we have been multiplying and dividing. We progressed from multiplying 4 digits x 1 digit using the column and grid methods to 2 digit x 2 digit in the grid then the column and finally 3 and 4 digit by 2 digit using the column method. The Year 5 teachers were incredibly impressed by the excellent resilience shown by the children in Maths this week. We ended the week by dividing 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. Next week, we will be solving a variety of problems using the four operations.
Topic
This week, we have continued our 'Frozen Kingdom' topic by making comparing Antarctica. First, we made a Venn diagram highlighting similarities between Antarctica and the Arctic before creating a set of Top Trump cards to allow us to compare Antarctica to a range of different countries. No one could beat Antarctica for coldest temperature but it struggled with population!
Home Learning
For the children's home learning this week. We have set three MyMaths (children can pick and choose over the week) tasks on multiplication. Please see your child's teacher if you need MyMaths logins.
Home Reading
Thank you for your continued support with your child's reading. Please remember to encourage your child to take their Accelerated Reader quiz when they have finished their book. You can access our AR site here https://ukhosted34.renlearn.co.uk/1892319/ or through our school website Home Page. Your child's username is the first three letters of their first name followed by their surname. The password is chilton (lowercase) for example: Username for Joe Smith would be JoeSmith and the password is chilton.

Sports Project is on Wednesday. Please could children come to school wearing their school uniform and trainers.

Swimming is on Thursday. Children will need to wear normal school uniform and bring their swimming things in a bag. Children can bring a snack of fruit to eat when they return to school if they want to.

After Swimming on Thursday, Team Cornflower will be leaving at normal time of 3:15 and Team Sapphire at the later time of 4:15
