One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 12th November 2021

Well done to Year 5 for another fantastic week. Thank you for all of the incredible aliens that were created for home learning. Here’s what we have been up to this week:

English

This week, we have continued to read ‘The Jamie Drake Equation’ and have been answering comprehension questions on the text to check our understanding. We also discussed how Jamie may have felt at particular points in the story through drama.

In our writing, we continued to focus on figurative language to describe our very own alien planet. We were so impressed with the range of ambitious vocabulary that Year 5 demonstrated within this task to make their work more exciting.

Next week, we will move on to express viewpoint within our writing by writing a letter from Jamie to his dad on the International Space Station.

Maths

In maths, we have continued our learning on fractions by learning how to find fractions of amounts. Year 5 showed great resilience with this, particularly when it came to using this skill to solve problems. At the end of the week, we also revised how to convert decimals to fractions, and used decimal hundred squares to help us.

Next week, we will move on to explore the properties of both 2-D and 3-D shapes.

RE

In RE we have been learning about who Muhammad is and why he is an important to Muslims. Within this topic we have learnt about the life of Muhammad and the origin of the Qur’an, and this to items and people that we perceive as sacred.

Next week, we will be returning to our PSHE learning in the afternoon to explore anti-bullying and how to maintain healthy relationships.

Home Learning

For this week's home learning, we would like the children to write five sentences beginning with fronted adverbials. Use ISPACE to help vary your fronted adverbials:
