One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 7th January 2022

Welcome back, Year 5! What a great week everybody has had. We have been really impressed how well everybody has settled back in.

ENGLISH

In English this week, our focus has been the video 'The Piano. Firstly, we listened to the music in the video without watching anything and created a scene showing what we thought could be happening. We then added the emotive language that we linked to the music to our artwork. Next, we watched a short part of the video and planned a wrote a descriptive piece focusing on emotive and figurative language describing the old man and the memory of his wife. Next week, we will watch more and more of the video and base our writing around what we have seen.

MATHS

In Maths this week, we have focused on number sequences and finding the term to term rule and negative numbers. We found the rule in different sequences and find missing numbers in sequences. We then looked at real life applications of negative numbers and solved a range of problems to show our understanding of negative numbers. Next week, we will be working on rounding whole numbers and then decimals before looking at adding and subtracting decimals including money.

RE

In the afternoons this week, we have been working on our Term 3 RE unit of Judaism. We looked at Shabbat discussing why the Sabbath day was important to Jewish people and what people typically do on Shabbat. We also looked at the importance of prayer in Judaism and how Jewish pray in different ways as well as well as celebrations to induct people into the Jewish community such as Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs. Next week, our afternoons will be spent learning about a specific 'Champion of Courage' in PSHE.

Two MyMaths tasks have been set relating to negative numbers to be completed for home learning.
