One Childhood, One Chance

New Blog Post

Friday 18th January 2019, Year 5 Blog Post

Year 5

Welcome to our blog. Each week we’ll update you with what we have been learning.

Reminders:

Ancient Greece Day – Friday 25th January 2019.

PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.

Learning this week:

In English, we started the new class book ‘Odysseus’. It is a Greek myth and will be used as inspiration for our writing over the next few weeks. This week we created our own mythical creature and wrote a non-chronological report about it.

In Maths, we have been learning how to round decimal numbers to the nearest whole, tenth and hundredth. We have also been learning how to add decimal numbers accurately.

RE this term is about Christian stories, we have been learning about the different themes (friendship and acceptance this week) in the Bible and learning how the stories are interlinked.

This week we started our new topic ‘From BRONZE to BIPLASTIC’. Our entry point was a visit to Pegwell Bay. We collected a range of rocks and classified them when we returned to school.

Home Learning:

What is the rock cycle?

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
