Year 5
Welcome to Term 6! We have plenty going on to keep us busy so please check here for updates.
This week we had our transition day and open evening. We hope you enjoyed experiencing your new year group and looking at the work you will be doing next year.
Reminders:
PE is every Wednesday afternoon (including swimming for those who are attending). Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school.
Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day and hand in their reading record daily.
Key Dates:
Wednesday 10th July – Mr Redwood’s music evening
Thursday 11th July – Spelling Bee and Beach Trip
Friday 19th July - Sports Day
Learning this week:
In English, we have written a school report about Bradley Chalkers. Writing in this style has helped us develop our formal style of writing. Organising our writing has been a key element of this text as well as choosing vocabulary carefully to reflect his class contributions.
In maths, our learning has involved converting measures from imperial to metric and vice versa. This has been a challenge but we are now more confident on how to use conversion charts to support our learning.
Our topic learning has been about natural selection and evolution. Based on this learning, we created a newly evolved creature; explained how it survived the natural selection process and how it evolved.

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
