One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 31.01.20

This week, the children have read more of 'Fire, Bed and Bone' and are making links to the Peasant's Revolt.  From this text, they have considered how the characters are feeling by writing in role - even in role of the mistreated dog - using ambitious vocabulary for effect.

In maths, they have consolidated their understanding of fractions by realising that decimals and percentage are just different ways to convey fractions.  They converted fractions into decimals and then into percentage.  Towards the end of the week, they began to understand the properties of 2D shapes.

In our topic this week, Year 6 visited the new housing development in our local area.  After taking on board many factors, they thought about why developers decided to build here, taking into account things such as future problems, schooling, employment and amenities.  What will the local area look like in the future?  Is this important for housing developers?

For Love to Learn this week, we would like you to design the 'house of tomorrow'.  What will local housing look like in 100 years' time do you think?  Draw and make notes on your work, taking into consideration what you have learnt this week.
